Springing into Daylight Savings
Anytime the hours we are exposed to light changes (Daylight Savings Time), we all experience major sleep disruptions. When youβre in charge of small creatures who canβt tell time, youβll wake up on your usual schedule. Any sleep adjustments can feel stressful, but we have some good news: the spring-forward schedule change should be a rather simple one.
Day of method
Start your day an hour later! If your little starts their day at 7, you can now enjoy starting the day at 8 am! This is great news for parents with babies who have an issue with early wakings! This is ideal for families who have an overall flexible schedule and donβt have to be out the door at a specific time.
The gradual approach:
This week, start adjusting your childβs schedule by small increments of time each day (we recommend 10-15mins). This means waking up your baby earlier each morning, and putting them to bed earlier each night. Base your childβs wake windows off the earlier wake time, and make sure they are full, proper wake windows. The idea is that by Sunday, your schedule will be back to normal. This method is great for babies who easily get overtired and parents who like the plan ahead.
Rip off the Band-Aid:
Start adjusting that Sunday! This is recommended for toddlers! Go in and wake at their normal scheduled time (just make sure to be ready to have an extra cup of coffee since this will feel an hour early). Offer a cat nap if needed, and be patient. Your little may be extra tired and grumpy, but they WILL quickly adjust like we do!
