How Does Scheduling Work for Newborn Care Specialists?

Curious as to how scheduling works for Overnight Newborn Care?

Having overnight support or daytime postpartum care can be so valuable in those initial weeks and months after baby arrives home. You’re tired, recovering from birth - and no matter how chill and sweet your brand new baby is, the facts are that they need constant care, frequent feeding and parents who are rested enough to provide the best care and bonding opportunities. If you get some sleep at night, this is life changing!

We’re here to help!

How Does Scheduling Work?

Generally the family will communicate any hard requirements on scheduling during the intake process, for example if they only need weekday or weekends coverage, we will staff for such. Flexibility however is to be had on both sides. Ultimately week by week, availability is determined by the caregiver’s schedule. During the scheduling process we do try to align the families preferences up with a mutually agreeable schedule, but some weeks this may not match up if the caregiver has vacation planned, family in town, etc.

Is Scheduling Flexible?

It is! Most of the Newborn Care Specialist are generally pretty flexible, but many do prefer to keep their hours focused on weeknights (Sunday-Thursday) if only working 4-5 nights per week. They are typically pretty flexible if a one-off weekend night is requested and will make it happen, so long as there isn’t a pre-existing conflict.

Flexibility is within reason however. If the caregiver prefers to have weekend nights off for the most part, or two consecutive nights off each week, we will honor this within scheduling, especially with 4-5 nights per week contracts. The nights off may vary during holiday weeks, planned vacations, etc.

How Do We Know Our Schedule?

We send out a schedule between the 21st-24th each month, for the upcoming month ahead. This allows time for our caregivers to confirm childcare, put in Time-off requests and for our families to request any potential scheduling adjustments.

Your anticipated schedule will also be send out a couple of months prior to your due date via the HBC Welcome Packet
