🌟 β€œAre you Flexible?”: The Honest Truth on Why Guaranteed Contracts Result in Safer Care for Your Baby When Hiring Postpartum Support 🌟

Families ask us often…. β€œare you flexible” during our intake calls. I usually say NO. That is the short and most simple answer.

In truth though, we are flexible with our contracts!

However, when families ask about flexibility… they aren’t really asking about flexibility. Flexibility is if grandparents are coming into town next week and we need to shift a night. THAT IS DOABLE. Flexibility is also switching the hours slightly one night or a few nights here and there…. maybe adding a Friday night as an additional night for a date night.

If you want guaranteed, professional care - it’s a two week street. When we do calls, a lot of families ask if the Newborn Care Specialists work this job exclusively or do they have day jobs. Our team, for the most part this is their exclusive full-time job. Because we guarantee their work. Otherwise, they’d have to have a day job to ensure they can pay their bills if their work in unstable.

β€œFlexibility does NOT mean that you book 16 weeks and 8 weeks in you decide you’re ok and leave your Postpartum Professional without work for the next 2 months after she reserved the time and turned away all other work for your family”
— every postpartum professional ever
  • If you NCS has her contracts secured and payment guaranteed, she will be able to focus on your family, rest during the day and prioritize overnight work as her only income.

If she doesn't have these protections, she'll likely need to seek other work during the day to guarantee that she's able to pay rent or her mortgage and put food on the table.

  • Book what you're comfortable with guaranteeing. If you view someone working at all hours as the only benefit of having a night nurse then 6-10 weeks may be a better fit for you. If you value having support guaranteed to your family, then book 10-16 weeks. A company is only as good as the people on their staff and if they can't retain longterm team members this WILL impact your service.

  • They do! and many caregivers use agencies only as a launching pad for their careers. We tend to retain our staff long term which results in better matchmaking and a better client experience overall.

Just some food for thought!

I think it can be easy to lose sight of the people behind the service. So this is just a helpful reminder to care for those, who care for you.
